New canons appointed

The appointment of four canons in the Anglican diocese, including two lay canons was announced by the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. W. A. Pyatt) during the Diocesan Synod. The clerical canons are the Rev. M. I. May, of St Peter’s, Upper Riccarton, and the Rev. T. A. McKenzie, vicar of St Albans.

Mr May was ordained in South Africa before coming to New Zealand 15 years ago. He was appointed vicar Of Oxford, then Kensington-

Otipua, South Canterbury, before taking up his present post. Mr McKenzie was ordained in 1951. He became curate of Merivale, then vicar of Banks Peninsula. From there he went to Te Ngawai, South Canterbury, and St James’s, Riccarton. He then spent three years in Singapore, at St Andrew’s School and Ascension Parish. On his return to New Zealand he became vicar of Geraldine, followed by an appointment as home secretary

of the Church Mission Society. The two lay canons appointed are Messrs N. J; Dorman and K. G. Elliot. Mr Dorman is on the executive of the Anglican Pension Board and was formerly assistant registrar of the diocese and administrative assistant to Bishop Pyatt. Mr Elliot, the Christchurch manager of the A.M.P. Society, is a church warden at St Barnabas’, Fendalton.
