No confidence vote: S.P.C.A. man resigns
The president of the Canterbury branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Mr T. R, Rusbridge) resigned on Monday' evening after a vote of noconfidence in him was passed at a meeting of the society’s ; council. ; Mr Rusbridge said he thought that the vote of no- ! confidence was “a bit on the i nose,” because it was over a I minor matter of releasing i dogs before a spaying fee had.’i been paid. Four members of the council had been absent when the' vote was passed and Mr Rus - I ! bridge says that it was , ] rather unfair to vote about , I him when four of the 12 1 j council members were missling. ; He said he was disap- ( ;pointed, because he had en- | joyed the work at the 1 •S.P.C.A. I)
He will not seek office in the council again but will remain a member of the society. Mr Rusbridge said that' pettiness among council] members over minor policy! decisions had dogged the' society for more than 12; years. “Over the last two years that I have been president 11 have tried to do my best to! get rid of the persistent pet-] jtiness, but after this I have! Ihad enough,” he said. The society is without leadership at the moment, as the vice-chairman (Mr N. Murphy) resigned last week. Mr Rusbridge expects that a new president will be elected at the society’s annual meeting, to be held on! i November 7.
