Jubilee of consecration

The jubilee of the consecration of the first Bishop of Aotearoa will be held at Rotorua from October 20 to 30.

About 2000 people from all parts of New Zealand and the Pacific area are expected to attend. The Governor-General (Str Keith Holyoake), the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon), the .West German President (Mr Walter Scheel) and several other parliamentarians will attend part of the celebrations.

became the first bishop of Aotearoa in 1928. At the jubilee celebrations his son, Manu Augustus Bennett, will be inaugurated as the third Bishop of Aotearoa. The new bishopric of Aotearoa, which was established by the Anglican General Synod in April empowers the Bishop to minister to Maoris in all seven dioceses. He will share with dioce-i san bishops in the manage-; ment and appointment of! clergy and staff for Maori work.
