Apprenticeships down?
A survey of engineering companies in Christchurch I has shown that the availa-j bility of apprenticeships in the industry might be down 25 per cent on last year. j The survey was conducted by the Canterbury Employers’ Association of its members in the engineering industry. The companies said that they would require about 60 apprentices, compared with 80 last year. ' The total number of new!
.contracts for engineering api prentices in the year to the jend of March was 133. This .figure includes engineering I employers who are not in the I association. I There were 1046 new con- • tracts in the same period for .all trades, which was a fall j of 5.6 per cent from the previous year.
