Peake leaving today
PA Auckland The New Zealand champion jockey of last season, D. A. Peake, will go to Sydney today under contract to ride for the powerful stable of J. B. Cummings. Peake said at Ruakaka on Friday that he had undertaken to ride for Cummings through the Australian Jockey Club spring meeting at Randwick beginning on September 30. Peake, who has headed the jockeys’ table in New Zealand for four of the last six seasons and was second on the other two. expects to be away a fortnight. He declined to say whether he would eventually be taking permanent residence in Sydney. “At the moment,” he said, "it is for two weeks.”
Peake went to Sydney early last month for some 10 or 12 days to ride for the Cummings stable and brought home three winners. He has made 'it clear that if suitable arrangements could be made he would be interested in shifting to Australia.
