The day in Portioned
The report of the Race Relations Conciliator was tabled when Parliament sat at 2.30, p.m. The Minister of Health (Mr Gill) tabled a schedule showing the average weekly number of motor accident victims admitted to hospital, and the number admitted during the two-week drink-driving blitz.
Members gave 14 notices of motion, and Ministers answered 39 questions.
The Social Credit leader and member of Parliament for Rangitikei (Mr B. C. Beetham) was refused leave to introduce the Local Authorities Loans Amendment Bill, after a 24-37 division. Parliament adjourned for dinner at 5.37 p.m. When it resumed at 7.30 p.m., the Police Amendment Bill and the Fishing Industry Board Amendment Bill were given a second reading. The Hive Levy Bill was given a second reading. Debate on the second reading of the Accident Compensation Amendment Bill was interrupted when Parliament rose at 10.30 p.m.
