World lifting marks fall

NZPA-Reuter Moscow i The middle heavy-weight i weight-lifter, Vladimir Kononov, ’has set two world records for his class in a competition in Dubna, near Moscow, the Soviet news agency Tass reported. Kononov jerked 225 kg, beating the old mark of 223 kg held by Sergei Arakelov, also of the Soviet Union.

His total for two lifts was 397.5 kg, improving by 2.5 kg the old mark held by another Soviet lifter. David Rigert.
