The original meat preserving and tallow works of the Canterbury Meat Company, erected in 1869. By the time this photograph was taken in 1895, the freezing works of the Christchurch Meat Company had been built behind the old works. The original works were destroyed by fire in 1904. Above the story is a reproduction of the original notice in the “New Zealand Gazette” announcing that the name of the Southbridge Junction station was to be changed to Hornby. This is the event being celebrated next week-end.
