$7500 stakes for Akaroa
Six penalty-bearing races. will be run and stakes totalling $7500 distributed at the i first trotting meeting with I on-course betting only to be run in Canterbury. This will be the Akaroa Trotting Club's meeting at Motuka-i rara on Saturday, October 21. A 10-race programme will be run with half-hour intervals between events. It is intended to run two doubles j and there will be quinella ! betting on each race. The feature event will be the Thelma Memorial, which 1 will be run in heats, with a final of $l7OO. The event will be restricted to CO fillies and mares [ and the three qualifying heats, restricted to 12 runners, will be the opening events on the programme. The first four in each heat, which will carry stakes of $lOO, will qualify for the final, which will be the last race on the programme. There will be two penaltybearing races for both maiden pacers and maiden trotters, all four events carrying a stake of $lOOO. A similar race will cater for three-year-old colts and geldings, in which CO horses will start from the front, winners of one and two
races from 10m, and three or J more races from 20m. The other race will be al non-penalty free-for-all cat- i ering for horses assessed at C 7 and faster. Run under! free-for-all conditions, it will carry a stake of $5OO. All races will be run over 2600 m and they will be: raced on the all-weather track used for Sunday work-1 outs.
