Tunny appeals at Waikato tonight
Special correspondent Auckland Tunny appears ideally placed to make a bold bid for an all-the-way victory in the Mexted Mobile Place, the first leg of the TAB. double at Claudelands tonight. Not surprisingly, in view of the moderate stake, the Mexted Pace has drawn a field of only eight runners but that should ensure that every horse gets a reasonable passage. An upset winner at Alexandra Park on July 22, Tunny ran fourth at Cambridge on August 4 A bad check put paid to his chances a week later at Auckland, and he finished boldly for second there on August 18. Tunny has always shown a use-; ful turn of speed and the smalls track at Claudelands should i play right into his hands if he! adopts, as seems likely, the rolel of pacemaker. Ceffyl Du, Lion Brown and Major Del look his toughest rivals. Ceffyl Du was right out of luck when he received a rocky run at Alexandra Park on August 18. In fact he had little luck In his previous few starts and has performed with credit in spite of this. Lion Brown was in very good form last month but he Hotted his copybook by refusing to begin cleanly at Auckland on August 18. The mobile start tonight should help his chances a good deal. Major Dell has been battling away honestly in recent attempts and could easily prove troublesome. Glen Butler, a good winner at Alexandra Park in June, could show up Baron Avert! and Coping Stone in their best form mav be fair prospects. Katy’s Command has displayed much promise in a handful of starts to date and she could finally break through for her initial success when she tackles the second leg, the Champagne Stakes. Spinnaker and pawn Brigade, who are shaping into very useful three-year-olds. will be other prospects. Oceania Prince and Brvdon Boy appeal of the remainder.
