N.Z. fencers foiled
NZPA Melbourne Only two New Zealanders got • past the first round of the Australian fencing championships. Peter Oswath, of Wellington, did best of the combined New Zealand Universities team, finishing thirteenth. Adrian Parkyn, from Palmer- j ston North, was the only other j New Zealander to reach the: second round. Andrew Harmos, Paul Lyons. (Steven Strother, Craig Miller, all of Auckland, Chris Noakes (Christchurch) and Al Mcßride (Dunedin) were all eliminated in the first round. The Victorian, Ernie Simon, successfully defended his na’tional foil title by defeating felilow Victorian Greg Benko, 5-3, Jin a hard-fought final.
