Napier magistrate dies
Mr Walter Keith Leslie Dougall, a former Christchurch barrister and solicitor who has been a Stipendiary Magistrate at Napier since 1365. has died at Napier. He was 61. Educated at St Andrew’s College and the University of Canterbury, Mr Dougall graduated with a bachelor of laws degree just before World War IL He had been a member of the, university rowing eight for two years.
and represented the university at tennis, rugby, and cricket. In World War II ne served with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. in the Pacific, Middle East, and Italy. On his return from ; active service, Mr Dougall ’ became a principal in the firm then known as Dougall, Son and Hutchison (later Dougall, Hutchison and Templeton), with which he practised until he w>as appointed a magistrate.
Mr Dougall served on the [ executive of the Canterbury District Law Society from > 1948 until 1958, and was its . president in 1957. From 1958 , until 1960 he was also a i member of the New Zealand 1 Law Council. j He was a member of the St , Andrew’s Old Boys’ Associa- ■ tion and was its president in 1 1957. • Mr Dougall is survived by j his wife, a daughter, and' three step-daughters.
