C.T.C. students move delayed

Primary, special education, and kindergarten division students from the Christchurch Teachers’ College will not now move to Ham from the college’s city site until next year. Equipment and furniture were to have been moved to 11am during the present August college vacation, ready for the students to move in at the beginning of next term. However, the college principal (Dr J. F. Mann) said that some buildings were “not quite ready,” and that some alterations were needed to allow the primary and secondary divisions to share resources according to subject areas. As it would be unsettling to move students and staff

lin the middle of next term, it was decided to delay the move until the beginning of the first term next year, he said. Furniture and equipment would be moved at the end of the year. The stage two buildings at i Ham, which include a five- . storey teaching block and a 300-seat auditorium, will be i opened by the Governor- ’ General (Sir Keith Holyoake) on October 26. A final decision had yet to be made on the future use i of the buildings to be vacated by the primary division on the comer of Mon- : treal and Peterborough Streets, said an Education Department spokesman. Ministry of Works officers had : said the life of the stone building there was limited.
