Avonside I kept alive its hopes of retaining its winter inter-club table tennis title with a decisive 10-2 win over Avonside H in the fifteenth round of the competition. Linwood still has a two-point lead over Avonside I, with the other A-grade teams out of the running. The top two teams will meet each other in the final round and a win for Avonside 1 would force a play off. The Avonside I trio of Wayne Adamson. Maurice Burrowes. and Les Stewart did not concede a singles. Bert Thompson did best for Avonside II extending Burrowes and Adamson to a third game. Avonside H's only w’ins were tn the doubles when its opposition defaulted. A surprise win bv Richard Tan against John Armstrong played a big part in University’s 7-5 win over Riccarton 11. Tan also beat Alistair Armstrong and University had a further bonus when Richard Dixon upset Stuart Armstrong. Although Stuart Armstrong beat Yee Chow Boi and Alistair Armstrong beat Dixon, the students pressed home their advantage by taking two of the three doubles.
