Bang — and out goes passenger

NZPA Manila A passenger was sucked out of a Philippines airliner yesterday when an explosion tore a hole in the plane causing sudden depressurisation — and sent it plummeting 3600 m. The aircraft, a BAC 1-11 landed safely, but at least four persons were injured by flying debris in the blast. The passenger who died was seen entering the aircraft’s rear toilet where the explosion occurred,

ripping away a panel of the fuselage. The cause of the incident was not known, but Investigators believe that plastic explosives may have been used. The aircraft was carrying 78 passengers and six crew on a domestic flight flying at 7500 m when the explosion occurred. The passengers and crew were allowed to leave the aircraft, which was cordoned by troops after it made its safe emergency landing.
