Retail sales rise
PA Wellington Retail sales of $1249.18M during the June, 1978, quarter were 8.3 per cent higher than during the corresponding quarter in June, 1977, said the Department of Statistics. At constant December 1974 prices, they were 5.2 per cent lower than the June, 1977, quarter. After adjustment for population and price changes, the turnover per head Of population was 5.3 per cent lower than
in the corresponding 1977, quarter. The $254.78 turnover per head during the June, 1978, quarter showed no change from the March, 1978, quarter. On this basis, retail sales per head during the March, 1978, quarter were 1.4 per cent higher than for the December, 1977, quarter, said the department. Chemists showed the biggest proportional increase with 18.6 per cent for the quarter, the smallest ins crease, 4.5 per cent, was recorded by butchers and poulterers.
