Whitecollar workers plan union
White-collar workers met in Christchurch on Wednesday evening to start moves to form their own industrial union. An association of professional, executive, managerial, and scientific staff was formed by the meeting to apply to the Registrar of Industrial Unions for registration as a union. Many of those who attended asked that their identity be kept secret from their employers. The concern was reflected in voting on the motion to form the association. Fifteen voted for it. none voted against, but eight abstained from voting. Officers and a committee were elected, and a committee meeting wil be held within the next month to formulate rules.
