N.Z. yachtsmen sixth over-all

New Zealand’s entry in the 470 racing class of the Soviet Union’s Tallin yachting regatta was well-placed at sixth over-all yesterday. After four races, Wellington’s Murray Jones and Andy Knowles had 66 points from a fifth, a second, sixteenth and twenty-fifth in their race?. The class leader, KazuOri Komatsu, of Japan, was strongly placed with 30.7 points, but the gap between the next seven 470 crews was narrow, with secondplaced Antonio Santella (Italy) on 48.4 points after the four races.

There are 54 yachts in the

470 class, the smallest of the two-man Olympic classes.

In the one-man Finns, New Zealand’s Peter Lester was also well placed at fifth over-all after three races, with his team-mate, Jonty Farmer, well back at thirty* fifth. After three races, Lester had 48 points, winning the first race but dropping badly to twenty-fourth in the second and twelfth in the third.

The positions of the New Zealand Tornado entries, Brett da Thier and Steve Moffat, were not available yesterday. Stewart Neff (U.S.) leads the Finn class with 28.70 points, followed by John Bertrand (Australia, 81.7} and August Miller (U.S., 33).
