‘Still serious’
The toddler who was run over by a bulldozer at the Waimairi tip on Wednesday is still in a serious condition in the intensivecare unit at Christchurch Hospital. Ursula Howley, aged three, of 16 Hollyford Avenue, Bryndwr, was sleeping in a pushchair when the bulldozer reversed over her. Her mother, Mrs Rosalie Howley, a solo parent who has five other children, had gone to the tip to dump some rubbish. Mrs Howley said yesterday that she had tried to stop the bulldozer, but had been too late.
The lower part of the
child’s body was badly crushed. Her condition had not changed, said a hospital spokesman. The schoolgirl, aged 10, who survived being run over by a train at Hornby on Wednesday was in a fairly comfortable condition in Christchurch Hospital last evening.
Carmel Anne Mills, of Range Road, West Melton, escaped with cuts, bruising, and shock when she passed under the cowcatcher of a goods train and was dragged 15m along the track. The accident occurred about 4.15 p.m. where the Main South Road crosses the Hornby industrial line.
