156-charge case adjourned

A Christchurch importing firm, Blaxall and Steven, Ltd, against which 149 charges have been laid, has had the hearing adjourned to October 11, on the application of the firm’s counsel. Four charges against a principal of the firm, Peter Norris George Blaxall, aged 49, and three charges against the manager of the company, Graham Edmond Pilkington, aged 46, were also adjourned to the same date.

No pleas were taken on any of the charges yesterday. Three of the charges against Blaxall, two against Pilkington, and 85 against Blaxall and Steven, Ltd, allege' breaches of the Trade and Industry Act. The remaining charges, 64 against the company, one against Pilkington, and one against Blaxall, have been laid under the Customs Act. The application was heard before Mr J. S. Bisphan, S.M.
