Campaign disbands
PA Wellington The Campaign for NonNuclear Futures has disbanded because, it says, its goal of keeping nuclear power stations out of New Zealand has been achieved.
The chairman, Dr D. Dawson, said it was now clear that nuclear power would not be seriously considered in New Zealand for at least 15 years. “Through the campaign’s half-million petition and the submissions to the Royal commission on nuclear power, the New Zealand public has clearly stated its view, and at last the Government has taken note,’’ he said. The campaign’s remaining funds will be devoted to E.C.0., the national environmental co-ordinating group, for its newsletter “Energy Watch.”
