Sweetest tone on phone
Coping with cantankerous callers is no problem for Anne Wigzell. She remains calm, cool and collected at all times. Miss Wigzell was voted winner of the Christchurch “Telephonist of the Year” competition last evening. This is the third year the competition has been run; it was organised by the Bryndwr Y’s Men’s Club, a service club of the Y.M.C.A. The 23 telephonists entered in the competition were called at work by three judges and given points for how they handled the calls. One of the judges, Mr D. H. S. King, said: “The standard of entrants this
year has been very high. Employers can be justly proud of their telephonists, they are excellent ambas, sadors for their firms.’’ Christchurch firms paid $5O each to enter their telephonists in the competition. The proceeds will go towards extensions to the Bryndwr YMC.A, buildings. Miss Wigzell, aged 20, works for Trans Tours New Zealand, Ltd. *1 find the job very enjoyable and always try to be patient, I think the main thing is to be a good listener,** she said. She was presented with a cheque for $lOO. The runner-up, Miss Debbie Williams, of Kidd Garrett, Ltd, received $35.
