Merivale Mall

Sir, — And still we go on and on, around the Merivale Mall merry-go-round. After being a resident in the district for 40 years, I am familiar with the area and I wonder why the fuss? This is a selfish and very smug view and it is all rather childish as well. Merivale has long been superseded by more attractive suburbs and what was once the stately home area is now a wretched assortment of same-looking, not altogether attractive flats, so why consider it to be the privileged settlement? It is time our council remembered that other ratepayers could welcome their areas being improved. Why is attention always focused on the wealthier sections. What is good enough for some is surely for all. — Yours, etc., L. KNIGHTS. August 15, 1978.
