Timber supply by builder
The Christchurch based building firm, Paynter and Hamilton, Ltd, which constructed the “Sentry Box Hill” showhome for Replica Homes, also supplied the timber and pre-cuts for the house. The firm, which is deeply involved in the whole project, also will be shipping the basic materials around New Zealand for the construction of similar homes elsewhere — and even for one in Australia. Paynter and Hamilton’s interest in the colonial style homes may even go back to the firm’s founding in 1904, since when it has been involved in the building and timber industries. Today, the firm is wellknown as building contractors, property developers, joinery manufacturers, timber merchants, pre-cutters, truss manufacturers and sawmillers. It has built some of the most interesting homes in Christchurch, many of which are still admired today. Other major work
included much of the Teachers’ Training College, some of the university buildings and the whole of Queen Elizabeth II park project. The firm is broken down into three basic operating divisions: construction, timber merchandising and sawmilling. Its interest in sawmilling makes Paynter and Hamilton concerned to see not only that timber is used, but that it is used lyIn native timbers, Paynter and Hamilton offers all types of building and finishing grades and mouldings. With pinus radiata, the firm offers both building and finishing grades and textured panelling. There also are special structural timbers,, such as New Zealand Oregon. Other company services include: Fencing materials — special designs for fencing, offering all manner of sizes and shapes for palings^and gate posts.
Special services — The equipment and skilled personnel to run special mouldings, such as skirtings and architraves. Pre-cutting division — Pricing and pre-cutting timber frames to any size or specification, and a reputation for being the most accurate pre-cutters in Christchurch. Nation-wide service — Packing and\ delivering timber anywhere in the country (or the, world); specialising in ''packing and weather sealing timber for easy transportation. Joinery — The joinery shop has facilities to make an extensive range of joins ery and fittings. \ Quote service — Quotations on any services', within 24 hours.
