PA Timaru Owen Duffy (Dynex, Dunedinhad an upset win over the highly rated Des Richards Athlon. Dunedin) in the South Island gymnastic championships in .Timaru at the week-end. Richards, the under-15 national titleholder, was beaten by Duff}. the under-17 champion of Otago and Canterbury, by 0.80 in a free-scoring exhibition. David Luttermann iNelson-, t)?e present under-19 title-holder, withstood a stiff challenge from i Alistair Perry (Alpha, Dunedin) to win the under-19 champion-; ship. Shane Williams (Timaru) won . the junior boys’ event.
