League rep. off to Wgtn
Steve Brewster (Hornby), a front-row forward in all five of Canterbury’s representative rugby league fixtures this season, will be playing in Wellington next year.
The strongly built prop is already spending much of his working time in Wellington, returning to Christchurch each Thursday. His job transfer will become permanent once the Canterbury club championship is completed.
A former New Zealand trialist and member of New Zealand Marist and Auckland teams between 1972 and 1976, Brewster toured Queensland with the Kiwi Colts as a forward five years ago. When Brewster joined Hornby at the beginning of last season he quickly earnt promotion to the Canterbury side. He lost his place after two appearances but lifted his standard appreciably in the last few months to become a regular selection in the provincial XIH. Brewster will be a valuable acquisition for Wellington, which already has three recent internationals, Whetu and Whare Henry and John Whittaker, and another former Auckland forward. Brian Jolley, in its pack.
