Record falls in jet boat race
Trevor Crowe and Alan Bull won the A class at the Canterbury Jet Boat Association's annual bridge to bridge race on the Waimakarlri River on Saturday, narrowly breaking the previous record for the race. The river was slightly In flood, favouring the bigger and faster craft. The previous race record-holder, John Butterfield, got into difficulties on the return leg of the race. Trevor Allan won the B class event, a fine effort considering the qualty of the field. Rod Harrison and Paul Kirk won the C class race in an excellent time considering their boat was not particularly suited to the conditions. Harrison also won the 1978 Winter Boating Series for the second successive year.
