Dixon not giving up
The globe-trotting New Zealand runner. Rod Dixon, refuses to allow the unhappy events of the last few days to discourage him from continuing with his plans tor a European tour now that the Cotnmonwealtl (tames have ended, write: Rod Dew. “1 am in the best shape have ever been in. And don’t want to waste it Henry Rono is going to Eur ope and so I will follow him and see if I can beat him somehow.” Dixon said after finishing eighth in the Commonwealth Games 1500 m final yesterday. ”1 am satisfied that I can give Henry a good get." Dixon, whose chances of challenging Rono for the gold medal in the Garner 5000 m final were destroyed when his gear was stolen from the warm-up tent a few minutes before the race was scheduled to start, said he only competed ir» the 1500 m yesterday because of the support he had received. “I received abdut 70 telegrams saying such things as ‘Chin up boy’ and ‘give it a go’. I decided I would but it was an anti-climax. 1 couldn’t make a real effort. My legs were like rubber.” In spite of his eighth placing, Dixon is convinced he can still run the 1500 m in less than 3min 355.
