Years of disappointment and frustration came to an end for the Kenyan athlete. Mike Bolt, aged 29, when he raced away to a comfortable win in the Commonwealth Games 800 m final in Edmonton. Boit crossed the finish line in Imin 46,395ec. The runner-up was Seymour; Newman (Jamaica) in linin' 47.305ec and Peter Lamashon (Kenya) won the bronze medal in Imin 47.575ec The women’s 800 m title went to an Australian. Judy Peckham, aged 27, in 2min 2.B2sec in a very tight finish with Teckla iChemabwai (Kenya). The defend
ing champion, Charlene Rendina (Australia), finished a dismal last. The. final of the men s high jump was won by a FrenchCanadian from Montreal. Claude Ferrange. aged 26, who used the little favoured Western roll in preference to the Fosbury Sop. Ferrange surprised even himself by clearing 2.2 m for a new Games record. There was also a new Games record in the men’s long jump when Roy Mitchell (England t leaped 8.06 m to beat narrowly the silver medallist at Christchurch, Chris Commons (Australial. Commons’s best jump was 8.04 m. Another Games record was set in the women’s javelin by Tessa Sanderson (England! with a winning throw of 61.34 m. Tire stiver medal went to Allison Howard (Canada) with a throw of 54.52 m.
