Inquiry on ‘Truth’ letter
PA Auckland. An Auckland solicitor is investigating how a letter from the British Communist Party to a Papakura man came to be printed in the “N.Z. Truth.” The man, Mr A. Dickinson, aged 45, an industrial chemist, said the letter had been delivered to his home by two policemen on July 21. Mr Dickinson said the police told him the letter had been handed in anonymously. The letter, dated June 28, was from an acquaintance in the international department of the party in London. It thanked Mr Dickinson for sending clippings on the Bastion Point dispute. Four days after he received the letter, which was without an envelope, a photostat copy of it was printed in “Truth.” Mr Dickinson’s solicitor, Mr B. Littlewood, confirmed that he would inquite into the matter. The Chief Postmaster for Auckland, Mr D. R. Frogatt, said “we’ve never handed over mail to anybody.” Inspector R. B. Stewart, head of the Papakura police, would not comment.
