Cycle classic to juniors
Tony Duder, a late starter to the season, won the Rangiora cycling 80km classic convincingly, outsprinting a bunch of 11 middle-to-front markers. Terry Gyde, a junior, was second. Another junior, the fastfinishing Barry Hulbert, was third, and Tony Fuller, yet another junior, and who had gone with Gyde initially in his second break, was fourth. Kim Reid won fastest time,
a clear winner of an otherwise close sprint. He was followed by the three juniors, Paul Flattery, Mark Nichols and Bruce Brunton, and these four were the best of the back mark. Graham Schist won the 14km novice race at Waipara, easily outsprinting Michael Andrew and Paul Clare.
