Bar sackings after walk-out

Most of Wamer’s Tavern was closed at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday after all the bar staff on duty walked off the job. All four staff members involved in the walk-out were later sacked. They included the assistant manager of the tavern. The walk-out. which forced the closing of the lounge bar and bottle store, had been in protest at the actions and conduct of the tavern’s management, said the senior industrial offi-

cer of the Canterbury Hotel Workers’ Union (Mr J. M. Anderson) last evening. He said the tavern was not expected to be open to the public until after a stopwork meeting of all staff at noon today. The aim of the meeting was to clarify problems between the management and staff of the tavern, and to consider possible further action, Mr Anderson said. The licensee of the tavern (Mr D. A. Alleyne) was not available for comment last evening.
