Strike threat

NZPA-Reuter La Paz Bolivia’s new military President faces the possibility of labour unrest after his indication that he will not bow to Opposition demands for new General Elections. General Juan Pereda Asbun took over in a bloodless coup last Friday, after elections on July 9 were annulled following charges of fraud on his behalf. In a speech at the swear-ing-in ceremony of his 15man Cabinet, President Pereda said the armed forces had supported the coup in order to impose the popular will. The main Opposition leader Dr Hernan Siles Zuazo, said resistance to the Government could include stoppages, possibly leading to a general strike. Three key Ministries went to Army and Air Force officers, but the 12 other posts were assigned to civilians.
