Return of the Troubadors

The Troubadors, a popular Auckland-based group that specialises in early music, will present a concert for the Christchurch Chamber Music Society in the James Hay Theatre on Thursday, July 27.

The tour concert is part of a tour organised by the Music Federation. Tire group will perform in eight major and provincial centres, songs and dances of the Middle Ages and music of early England. Last year the Troubadours, who are led by Steve Rosenberg, toured seven centres in Australia, and ended with a performance in the Sydney Opera House which was recorded by the Australian Broadcasting Commission. The tour was organised by the Music Federation

and its Australian counterpart, Musica Viva Australia, and had assistance from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Melbourne, Adelaide, Broken Hill, and Wagga Wagga were among the centres in which concerts were given. Members of the group are Graham Dellow, Cathy Newhook, Jeff Scholes, Don Moorhead (all of Auckland), and Robert Oliver (Wellington). They play a variety of early instruments, such as the crumhom, rackett, viol, and recorder. The Troubadors made themselves well known to television audiences last year. They appeared on the popular TVI programme, “Two on One,” and took up a whole edition of the channel’s arts programme, “Arena.”
