Magnetic truck in use
Canterbury’s magnetic truck is still in use. To counter “misleading comments and criticisms,” the District Commissioner of Works (Mr P. Reynolds) said the truck was available for State highway sweeping on a “much-reduced scale" and was meeting “a continuing demand from local authori-
: ties, and other Government and private organisations.” ; However the machine had ’ a limited life, and would f not be replaced when it was I withdrawn. Private - hire • vehicles should then be able t “comfortably” to take over . the work. North Island sweeping was done by ! private-hire machines, Mr ■ Reynolds said.
