New swimming selectors
The New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association elected two new national selectors at its annual conference at the week-end. They are Mrs Norma Williams (Auckland) a former New Zealand representative and Mr Laurie Crabb (Nelson). The third member of the i
panel is Mr Ron Shakespeare (Hawke’s Bay) a member of the previous panel. Mr Johnny Johnson (Canterbury) a sitting panel member, failed to gain re-elec-tion. Mr Roly Webb (Bay of Plenty) the third member of the old panel did not seek re-election.
There were nine nominations for the panel requir- • ing several ballots before the successful three were known. Mrs Williams, a silver medallist in the 4 x 110 yd ; freestyle relay at the Auck- i land Commonwealth Games in 1950, has retained her i
interest in the sport. She was the team chaperone at the 1968 Mexico Olympics. Mr Crabb is a former president of the association and was manager of the New Zealand swimming team to the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970.
