1.15M properties on valuation roll
The Valuation Department is now making 400,000 separate property valuations a year, and is keeping a valuation roll of more than 1.150,000 properties on which central and local government raise in excess of S23OM by way of rates, levies, taxes, duties, rents and proceeds from the sale of land. The net annual cost of this service is less than SSM. The department also compiles nearly 30,000 special valuations and reports each year, providing
a service for about 80 Government departments and agencies. There were few activities associated with real estate that were not influenced by the department, said the report. The report noted that New Zealand’s valuation system and training methods for valuers were held in high regard overseas. It was necessary, however, for the independent statutory position of the Valuer-General to be preserved if confidence in his work was to be maintained. it said.
