Mother says ' No’

PA Palmerston North The Awapunl horsewoman, Vivienne Kaye, will be one of several girls making history to morrow when she rides against the men at Trentham.

Vivienne, aged 16, has been engaged to ride her father’s horse, Cullinan, In hte Crofton Handicap, the third race on the card at the Wellington Racing ! Club’s winter meeting. Two other women riders will be In action at the aV. imate meeting in South Canterbury. But Miss Kaye very nearly stole a march on all of them. The Awapunl trainer. Eric Temperton, is wide awake to Vivienne’s capabilities—so much so that he offered her the mount on Bleu Streak in the Wellington Hurdles. Eleu Streak is one of the favourites for the race after his runaway win over Cadge in the Trentham Hurdles on the first day.

Temperton *m deadly serious about the offer, mad* on Tuts day. Vivienne was most enthusiastic and could not accept the mount fast enough. Her father, Alan Kaye, was philosophical. “I would not stand In her way. She can ride him if she wants to,” he told Temperton. But Vivienne’s mother, Peggy, had the final say. She quickly vetoed the idea. ‘‘No way.” she said. “She will have to learn to ride properly against the men first before she takes on the jumping game. After all. Saturday is her big day and I would be worried sick if she took a hurdle mount, no matter how safe the horse is." So unless she picks up an outside ride on the day It seems (that Cullinan will be Vivienne’s {only ride. Bleu Streak will now Ibe ridden by Peter Harris.
