Cartage rise sought
PA Wellington The Road Transport Association has applied for a|< national increase to the road cartage rates. i The application, lodged with the Secretary for; Transport (Mr A. J. Edwards) was for an 8.5 peri cent increase in the max-' imum town cartage rates I and a 5.5 per cent maximum increase for rural and route! rates. li
The association lodged the application to help recoup expenses in the increased petrol prices and the general wage order. Road transport firms were granted increased cartage rates in early April to help I offset road-user charges, but ! the firms said that the 2.1 per cent town rate increase and the 4.5 per cent rise in rural and route rates were inadequate.
