Choice for runners

About 1000 runners are expected to take part in the Commonwealth Games fun-run around Hagley Park on Sunday. It will be one of 23 funruns being held throughout New Zealand at the same time to raise funds for the national Commonwealth Games team which will contest the Edmonton Games from August 3 to 12. The first runners will leave from the Armagh Street gates of Hagley Park at 10 a.m. There will be a choice of three courses: the longest will be of 7km over a figure-of-eight; the medium course of 5.6 km will be one lap of the park; and the short course of 3.5 km will be one lap of north Hagley Park. The national fund is already off to a good start with an assured $3750 from booksellers. A total of 2500 copies of a new book, “The Complete Book of Running,” by James E. Fixx, has been released through major bookshops. A dollar will be returned to the Commonwealth Games fund by the reseller for each book and an additional 50c a book will be contributed by the New Zealand agent for the publication.
