‘Turner asked 5 times’

“Five separate written requests between November 1977 and April 1978” have been sent by the New Zealand Cricket Council to its former test captain, Glenn Turner, asking for repayment of money advanced to Turner in September last year, claims the board. In a statement released yesterday, the N.Z.C.C. replied to Turner’s allegations of “harassment and bully tactics” by the council. The statement said that in recent years Darner has been sent either return air tickets or money in advance by April-May to enable him to play in the New Zealand season, beginning in October. “At Turner’s request the equivalent of an air fare in money was paid to him in September, 1977, to enable him to return to . ew Zealand in October for the 1977-78 season, and then return to the United Kingdom.” When Turner decided not to return to New Zealand he was required, under the contract, to refund the money Within 30 days of a request being made.

The request was made in November, 1977. Four more such requests have been made, the last being in April. Turner was recently quoted as -aying, in regard to the money being owed: “Normally I pay a return air fare between New Zealand and England in March in New Zealand. Usually it takes about six months before I get it back.”
