Riddles and a trick

"So long!” said the monkey as he slid down the giraffe’s neck. “I believe in getting to the bottom of things” Father said as he spanked his naughty son. “This is the end,” said the little boy as his pants fell oflf. A house painter was on a ladder painting a ceiling and his mate was down below. “Hey, have you got a firm grip on that brush?” the mate down below called up. “Yep!” the painter above called down. “Okay. Hang on. I need the ladder.” •J* Once there was a man who wore a winter coat to a cricket match because he heard thousands of fans would be there.

j|» j|« “I used to snore so loud that I’d wake myself up” Terry said. “What did you do about it?” Bill asked. “I cured myself.” “How?” “Now I sleep in the next

room and don’t hear a thing.”

Practise this trick and then puzzle your friends. You need a glass about two-thirds full of water, a needle, and a piece of blotting paper. Stand in front of your audience with the glass of water on a table. Hold up the needle and give it to an onlooker. He or she must try to make the needle float on the surface of the water. The volunteer will try hard but will not succeed. The needle will sink to the bottom of the glass. Other members of the audience might like to try their luck with the needle too. When everyone gives up, take the small piece of blotting paper from its hiding place in your pocket. Float the paper on the water and then put the needle on top of the blotting paper. Soon the blotting paper will become saturated and sink to the bottom of the glass, leaving the needle floating on the surface.
