Situation: A deep depression covering the western Tasman Sea is moving steadily southeastwards and its associated frontal zone is moving towards New Zealand. A strong northerly airstream precedes the front. Forecasts: Canterbury: Rain in the western ranges but elsewhere generally fine, with cloudy skies; freshening northerly winds, with mild afternoon temperatures.
Marlborough, Nelsont Over-* cast, with rain spreading from the west during the afternoon and evening; northerly winds becoming strong; moderate temperatures.
Buller, Westlandt Overcast, with widespread rain, heavy falls being likely in South Westland: northeasertly winds, becoming strong in exposed places; moderate temperatures. Outlook: Rain or showers in all districts.
