Games fun-run on July 16
The Christchurch fun-run l to raise funds for the New Zealand team for the Commonwealth Games at Edmonton will be held around Hagley Park on Sunday, July 16.
The New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association needs a further $65,000 to pay for the team of 103 which leaves from Auckland today. Community fun-runs are being held throughout the country in the hope of raising this money quickly and, at the same time, encouraging people to take exercise for recreation and health. The Christchurch run will begin at the Armagh Street gates of Hagley Park at 10 a.m. The organisers are hoping for a large turn-out, in
spite of the considerable number of fun-runs which have been held in the city in recent months.
There will be no prize far the first finisher, as the run is not a race. But all runs ners will be included in a draw for a return air trip to Rotorua, donated by Mount Cook Airlines. Also a port* able typewriter has been donated by Armstrong and Springhall Ltd, and this will go to the club with the biggest entry. Entry fees are: $1 far adults, 50c for school children, or $2 a family. At the end of the run, a number of novelty events such as rugby goal-kicking, throwing a cricket ball, and throwing a ball through a netball hoop will be held.
