$420,000 aid to Waimairi flats
Parliamentary reporter Government finance of $420,000 has been approved for a Waimairi County Council pensioner housing scheme. The scheme, 28 units to be built at 51-53 Torrens Road, will get $280,000 in subsidies and a $140,000 loan, both from the Housing Corporation.
The council intends to put 22 single and six double flats on the 80 perch site, which it owns already. Work on the complex will start about September, and it is hoped to have the flats ready in 12 months. The council has 257 flats already built and another 36 under construction. It has a waiting list of 200 eligible applicants.
