Mostly firm in London

Share prices closed quietly firm on the London Stock Exchange last week, reflecting hopes of a relaxation of dividend controls. Leading industrials were mostly a few pence firmer. Mining shares eased in line with the lower gold price. Australian stocks, apart from some mining shares, recovered slightly on the London exchange bn Friday. Across the board, rises were only as much as five cents, although B.H.P. and the uranium speculator, Pan Continental, had biager increases. B.H.P. picked up 15 cents and finished at 699 c (Aust). Pan Continental, which suffered losses during the week, gained 12c an closed at 1308 c. Mining shares which lost ground were Peko Wallsend (down 3c). E.Z. Industries (sc) and Hamersley, again disappointing with a 5c fall to 230 c (Aust).
