Blue day for Oamaru
The call by the Gay Rights Coalition for all homosexuals to declare themselves by wearing blue jeans yesterday caused some embarrassment in Oamaru, reports the Press Association.
The Scout Commissioner for Oamaru (Mr Douglas Ireland) urged scouts to
wear anything but. jeans during the da
even their scout uniform if necessary.
And at the Oamaru Intermediate School, where yesterday was a
"mufti” day when pupils could wear casual clothes, a number of parents telephoned to ask what their children should wear. One mother even went out and bought a pair of cream-coloured slacks for her daughter, so that she would not have to wear her jeans.
