Head lice school problem

An outbreak of head lice has occurred in some Christchurch schools. The Health Department has issued warning notices to parents describing head lice and how to treat them. The Deputy Medical Officer of Health in Christchurch (Dr M. A. Brieseman) said yesterday that the department wanted parents to be made aware of the condition so that its spread could be halted. “It is so easily spread by personal contact, but it is also easy to treat,” he said. Head lice usually were associated with poor personal hygiene, but this did not mean that persons with high standards would not be infected. "Anywhere where people are in close personal contact is a ‘risk’ area,” Dr Brieseman said.
