Ready-to-wear collections
3. The full-length coat with squared-out shoulders and shoulder pleating. 4. Versatility in toppers — from a three-quarter box jacket, a bathrobestyle wrap, a long parka to a big anorak, a bloused blouson, or a quilted bolero. 5. The new look in knitwear is textured with double-faced fuzzy wools for coats and nubby and looped knitted wools for jackets.
6. Loose big swirling skirts with bias and gathered open pleats or sun pleats as well as the new pencil-slim skirt. 7. Quilting extends to leather and satin as well as traditional cotton. 8. Dresses are trying another comeback with tucks and shirring shaping the front and back. The loose chemise, the high-waisted baby-doll dress are also forerunners. 9. The newest dresses
have broader shoulders and are slim and easy through the body. They come in all lengths, from tunic-length covering hips, to ankle length, and are always worn with the narrow trouser, dancer’s leg warmers, or woollen tights. 10. Layering: Italian designers are layering boleros over coats, boxy vests over dresses, dresses over trousers, sleeveless cardigans over sleeved
. pullovers. Although they are loose the effect is not too gigantic. As always the Italian collections can give us inspiration and it is fun adapting the various trends in shape and colour to suit our individual styling. It is obvious that winter shapes are becoming less restricting for movement — especially arm and shoulder movement.
