Crime wave
Experts preparing for the 1980 United Nations Crime Prevention Conference in Sydney have uncovered figures which show a giant crime rate increase on a world-w’ide scale. A 66-coun-trv studj' for the period 1970 to 1975 showed a 179 per cent increase in cases of theft and a 114 per cent rise i in drugs crimes. The experts said there was no significant differences in crime rates between Communist and Western nations, but that juvenile delinquency was rising much faster in industrialised countries than in developing nations. Men still make up most of the criminal world. The ratio of men to women criminals is ; currently 10:1, but the gap i is beginning to narrow, the I report says. — Vienna,
